BIO

Introducing Dutch Elm, the four piece instrumental band from Newcastle who weave intricate pedal-led guitars amongst a powerful and energetic rhythm section, in a crossover of the post-rock and math-rock genres previously described as 'a mesmerising soundscape'.

Established in 2016 amidst the ruins of a fire damaged practice room, Dutch Elm have confidently developed their sound, blending post-rock dynamics with complex math-rock rhythms, soaring, atmospheric instrumentals and intense crescendos. Their songs, often challenging present day political or environmental issues through the use of well placed samples, feature odd time signatures, layered guitar work and rhythmic complexity, offering moments of subtlety that go head to head with high-energy release. Dutch Elm have made a name for themselves in their hometown of Newcastle and across the country for delivering textured and powerful live performances.

PRESS

"The talent throughout is off the charts."

Overtone

"This is a record that understands its lineage but refuses to be boxed in by it, delivered with a confidence that suggests Dutch Elm are only just getting started."

Buttonpusher

"The tracks are complex, sometimes chaotic and sometimes restrained; there is never a dull moment on this album as the music cascades forward with its twists, hooks, and turns."

Veil of Sound

"Straight out of the gate DUTCH ELM set themselves up as future stars of the Arctangent scene."

Distorted Sound

"Dutch Elm doesn't introduce itself so much as kick the door in - two guitars arguing in public while the rhythm section cheers them on."

Architeg

"The band creates an avalanche of sound. They are definitely a band to take notice of."
